The Applications Development Engineer strives to become world leader in applications in their market segment, becoming the go-to expert in the world for the usage of related instruments to solve leading and important problems in the market segment. The goal is to identify and solve customer problems and needs, through advanced usage of our instruments on appropriate customer samples, arranging and managing collaborations with key customers and segment leaders and harvesting the literature for examples of pioneering applications. Work directly with the demo labs on advanced samples that come through during demonstrations.
This position reports to Director of Marketing and Applications.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acquire in depth technical knowledge of customer workflows where Company has an opportunity to provide solutions.
- Provide detailed descriptions of customer’s “Job-to-be-done” and how solutions can impact success in the context of the customer’s workflow.
Develop application concept details that solve specific customer problems.
Construct proto type workflows and feasibility use case examples to support new solution concepts.
Validate new solution concepts through customer collaborations. Provide “hands on” applications support for collaborations.
Support MRD development by contributing detailed requirements from customer perspective.
Create application content to support product positioning for sales and marketing collateral.
Provide expert level sales and strategic customer support.
Train demo lab personnel how to showcase sub-segment solutions. Facilitate best demo practices sharing between the world-wide demo labs.
Thought leadership priorities (publications, conference contributions, and webinars).
Experience and Education Requirements:
MS or PhD Degree in technical field strongly preferred.
5+ years relevant experience working in a technical discipline working as an engineer or scientist for an electronics related manufacturer.
Experience with application of light microscopy, e-beam or ion beam imaging and associated analytical tools for solving industry problems strongly preferred.
High level thinker that is able to “see the forest through the trees”. This is especially important when faced with extracting valuable information from a mountain of raw data.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable communicating with the scientific/technical community and high level economic buyers.
